intro
Resilient second album from Nashville-based singer-songwriter Lilly Winwood, the daughter of British rock star Steve Wunwood, which is inspired in part by her experiences working late shifts as a waitress
‘Talking Walls’, the new album by Nashville-based Lilly Winwood reflects the tumultuous time the singer-songwriter, daughter of British rock star Steve Winwood, has experienced over Covid with its uncertain time for the music industry. Since the release of her debut album ‘Time Well Spent’ Winwood has worked as a waitress, trying to survive financially: “I’d be working in a restaurant all day and then at night, come 3 a.m., I’d be pulling half-written songs out of my apron... Then it all came together.” Songs to look out for in this nine-track collection include: the opening song and first single, ‘Sleep Issues’ with its country-rock vibe, reflecting the tiredness of the 13-hour shifts; ‘Good Old Days’ with its upbeat acceptance of the hand fate has dealt; the 70s soft rock, pop-tinged ‘Keep It Spinning’, also released as a music video; ‘A Paper Trail Of Broken Hearts’ on the destructive impact drug-taking can have on a relationship; the minimalist, dynamic ‘Brighter Days' ; the light-hearted, whimsical ‘Idastoned’ about getting high in Idaho; and the closer, the plaintive ‘Laundry Days’ with its liberation from heartbreak. “I want this to inspire people to keep going with their art,” Winwood said. “Even though it may seem like they’re not in a good space now, don’t give up on it. Keep talking to the walls.” Eclectic, soulful, with its songs of resilience, ‘Talking Walls’ ably captures that resolve.
