intro
Impressive reissue of folk singer-songwriter Steve Ashley’s 1979 album which he recorded with members of Fairport Conventiion
Steve Ashley's ‘Family Album’ has been remastered with a couple of extra tracks. The record – backed by Fairport Convention – was first recorded in 1979 and it contains many classic Ashley original songs – including ‘Family Love’, ‘Once In A While’, ‘Feeling Lazy’, ‘Pancake Day’ and ‘The Rough With The Smooth’. On the new remastered release there is a fascinating line-up of Fairport Convention members past and present. These include Simon Nicol, Dave Pegg and Chris Leslie (all still with Fairport) plus the late Bruce Rowland. A 12 page booklet accompanying the album has recollections from Steve Ashley, Dave Pegg and Chris Leslie with an overview by Simon Jones. Dave Pegg originally produced the Steve Ashley ‘Family Album’ and says, “The quality of the song-writing plus the vibe of the musicians involved make this record still stand up today, over four decades after it was recorded. It was great fun to do and I still love listening to it. It is very good to know it is being made available again.” With one track reinstated from the original recording sessions plus Steve Ashley's poignant memorial to his friend Bruce Rowland, ‘Steve Ashley's Family Album Revisited’ will bring fresh insights for long-term fans. Whilst, for newcomers, the remastered version of the album will provide a classic collection of folk-rock songs about family life by an English singer-songwriter in his prime - all with impeccable support from members of another great enduring English family - Fairport Convention.
