intro
Unpretentious high quality pop and R and B on seventh album from bestselling Los Angeles band Maroon 5
Maroon 5, who formed from the remnants of a high school grunge band called Kara's Flowers, have continued to go from strength to strength. The Los Angeles sextet have become masters of unpretentious, quality pop and slick and silky R&B......all far removed from their high school grunge style! The pop numbers on their new album, ‘Jordi’ have a generic feel. The R&B tracks are dominated by guests, including rapper Megan Thee Stallion and the record has real personality. Band members Jesse Carmichael (keyboards) and James Valentine (guitar) are great foils to Adam Levine's sweet croon on ‘Beautiful Mistakes’ and on the sun-drenched ‘One Light’. Stevie Nicks is superb, too, bringing the essence of Fleetwood Mac to ‘Remedy’, a duet with Levine. There are also two poignant references to Maroon 5's late manager, Jordan Feldstein, who sadly died in 2017. Feldstein's nickname was Jordi, hence the album title - and he is also honoured in the hymn-like track, ‘Memories’.
