intro
Intimate and acoustic covers album from leading Americana duo Gillian Welch and David Rawlings
Leading proponents of contemporary Americana, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings have won great acclaim for their new album, “All The Good Times” - an acoustic covers record now on general release that the pair made last summer as a lockdown treat for their fans. They already have a Grammy nomination for the album. Interestingly, “All The Good Times” was just made cheaply on a two-track tape recorder. It is an intimate recording combining traditional tunes with some of their own singer-songwriter output. They strip down and simplify two lesser-known Bob Dylan songs from the 1970s, “Senor” and “Abandoned Love” and they pay respects to the late John Prine on a poignant “Hello In There”. A powerful, rollicking version of the 1960s country hit “Jackson” provides light relief. There are many refreshing twists throughout the album and it is no surprise that the homespun folk and bluegrass of Welch and Rawlings on “All The Good Times” has been so well received.
