Hello and welcome to the February edition of the Pennyblackmusic Magazine. One of the hard lessons of the last year has been the fragility of life, and this was compounded for us all at Pennyblackmusic as we were saddened and shocked to learn of the death of our writer Keith How, who passed away suddenly on the 26th January. He was 70 years old. Keith was raised and spent his life living in the Peak District, one of the most beautiful areas of Britain. He was an artist, and exhibited paintings and prints in London, Manchester, Sheffield, Finland as well as his home town of Bakewell. He brought an understanding of landscape and an artistic eye to his music writing, and there was a sense of lyricism and the poetic in his work for us. Keith joined Pennyblackmusic in early 2015 after being introduced to the site by his fellow writer, then neighbour and close friend Nicky Crewe. He loved encouraging new music, and ran his own column, ‘Under the Radar’, which championed great bands and acts which otherwise often had had little exposure. We will be paying full tribute to Keith in a future edition, but for now are publishing his final two articles, an album review of Still Corners' 'The Last Exit' and his most recent 'Under the Radar' column. They show, as did all his writing for us, a writer of passion, warmth, empathy and enormous talent. As always this magazine has been put together through the hard work of a lot of people. Thank you to Kimberly Bright, Malcolm Carter, Nicky Crewe, Nick Dent-Robinson, Anthony Dhanendran, Dave Goodwin, Zena Greig, Ben Howarth, Gus Ironside, Adrian Janes, Steve Kinrade, Richard Lewis, Steve Miles, Mark Rowland, Maarten Schiethart, Neil Swift, Lisa Torem, Andrew Twambley, Cila Warncke and Denzil Watson for all their contributions to this edition. Special thanks to our webmaster Richard Banks for his work behind the scenes and without whom none of this would be possible. Thank you to Keith. Our thoughts are with his wife Sue and family. This edition is dedicated to Keith How. John Clarkson Magazine Editor www.pennyblackmusic.co.uk
