intro
Emotive but catchy and vintage-toned solo album from powerful-voiced Queen singer Adam Lambert
Adam Lambert's newest album, 'Velvet' lives up to its name with smooth, luxuriant tracks which are some of the Indianapolis-born and Los Angeles-based singer's most impressive work to date. Having now worked successfully with Queen over several years, Lambert has gained real maturity in the style of his performances and this new record is a mix of bouncy, catchy numbers with slower, more emotional songs which add variety yet remain true to the deliberately vintage feel of 'Velvet'. The title track is a powerful opener which sets the tone as Lambert expertly experiments with some jazzy arrangements. Highlights of the album are the bass-heavy 'Loverboy' as well as the stripped-back 'Closer To You'. Towards the end the record veers into darker, heavier territory and this ensures there is nothing bland about it. Finally it comes to an emotional climax with the tender 'Feel Something' which is beautifully executed. 'Velvet' is an interesting album which demonstrates very clearly the breadth of Lambert's range. It should help win him an even broader audience.
