intro
Versatile potentially last album from SherlY Crow which includes an impressive range of guest stars including Keith Richards and Eric Clapton
'Threads' is 57 year-old Sheryl Crow's 11th album – and she has hinted it might be her last. It will certainly be a hard act to follow as she appears to have pulled out all the stops for this record with a powerful supporting cast. Artists appearing with her include Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, the Eagles' Joe Walsh, Mavis Staples, Willie Nelson and Stevie Nicks plus rapper Chuck D. Sheryl Crow may be a couple of decades younger than some of these evergreen, 'heritage' icons of music – but she blends effortlessly with them. Her work with Stevie Nicks on country-rock track 'Prove You Wrong' is powerful and she fits perfectly with Keith Richards on the slow, bluesy ballad 'The Worst' – a number featured by the Rolling Stones on 1994's 'Voodoo Lounge'. There's also a real frisson to the Crow and Clapton partnership on 'Beware Of Darkness', a George Harrison number - which is hardly surprising, given that Sheryl Crow and Eric Clapton were once enmeshed romantically! One of Crow's big hit singles back in 1998, 'My Favourite Mistake', was all about their relationship. Sheryl Crow's own compositions augment the cover versions on this album and are quite impressive – like 'Live Wire' and 'The Good Old Days'. The combined versatility, virtuosity and range of Crow is remarkable. And this album is highly recommended, whether or not it is Sheryl Crow's final offering!
