intro
Zena Grieg profiles this year's Glasgow Summer Sessions which will take place in Bellahouston Park in Glasgow between the 16th and 25th August.
After the amazing musical heights of Glastonbury, the focus is now on Scotland with the biggest stars set to play at Glasgow Summer Sessions in the south side of the city, with one of the event’s most iconic line-ups to date. Stars performing include Stormzy, George Ezra, Gerry Cinammon, Lewis Capaldi (also performing at the Edinburgh Summer Sessions festival in Princes Street Gardens from 7 -18 August), and Johnny Marr. Headlining the 2019 Glasgow festival are post-punk legends the Cure, arena-rock heroes Foo Fighters and multiple Brit-award-winning band The 1975. Friday 16th August will mark The Cure’s first appearance in Scotland for 27 years, headlining a major Scottish festival for the first time. One of the most iconic bands in alternative music, their career spans over 40 years and 13 albums with classic hits like ‘Friday I’m In Love’, ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ and ‘Inbetween Days’. Saturday 17th August will see the Foo Fighters take the stage for their first appearance at Glasgow Sessions. Fronted by the inimitable Dave Grohl, they have one of the most treasured back catalogues in rock including a vast array of iconic rock anthems. Alongside all the international stars, festival organisers have ensured a range of exciting breakthrough artists for fans to experience. Bringing Scotland’s festival season to an exciting finale, Glasgow Summer Sessions will see up to 100,000 music fans descend on Bellahouston Park across the 16th, 17th and 25th August for three unforgettable days of live music.
