Towersey Festival - Profile

intro

Zena Grieg previews this year's Towersey Festival which will take place in Oxfordshire between the 23rd and the 26th August.

The 2019 Towersey Festival is set to hit new historic heights. In the year that Steve and Lioux Heap, the two directors who have long been at the heart of the event, stand down, the festival boasts an array of the best and brightest talent from across the UK and beyond. Started in 1965, Towersey is one of the UK's most established independent music festivals, featuring an eclectic and extensive music programme including ceilidh, folk, workshops, film screenings, spoken word events and well-stocked bars and street food plus activities for younger festival-goers. This year is the event's 55th anniversary and the line-up is impressive. It includes the Hothouse Flowers, Seth Lakeman, Steve Harley and the Unthanks as headliners. There will also be appearances from folk rock legends Oysterband, the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain and Two-Tone heroes, the Selecter. Plus Towersey will be welcoming the Cornish shanty singers Fisherman's Friends whose fame has spread following the recent hit film about their unexpected rise to success. Festival Director Joe Heap said, “After an amazing 2018, we've really set out to capture what people love so much about the festival. As a result, 2019 is one of our most exciting and eclectic line-ups. There will be loads of surprises too!” The annual four-day folk and roots festival will take place from 23rd-26th August in Thame, Oxfordshire.
