intro
Multi-layered debut album from Norwegian singer-songqwriter and composer Anne Marie Almedal
Anne Marie Almedal is a professional musician, having trained at the Music Conservatory in Kristiansand. She is Norwegian, and has composed music for TV and film. The first two tracks on the album , 'You Keep Me at Arm's Length' and 'Here Comes the Train', feel quite cold and distant, but her cover of The Cure’s 'Lovesong' has more depth and feeling to it, that I didn’t get from the previous tracks. The following track, Into the Shadows'. I found much more to my liking, the guitar intro reminds me of some of Justin Sulllivan’s solo work, but with a touch of Kate Bush as the song moves on. 'Oh Hard Times' strips the sound back to piano and violin after the complex composition of the previous track. 'Sheltering Sky' has a very anthemic, European theme to it, whereas 'One Step' is another multi-layered track that draws me in and makes me feel as if I could retreat under my duvet and stay there. It’s these tracks that work the best for me. Overall the album has a variety of styles, some of which I loved more than others. It’s one that will stay on my playlist for a while.
