intro
Fine rock-influenced second EP from Norfolk all-girl group Young States
Why do we never see any bands from Norfolk? There possibly is. Let me know. Here's one in fact in the shape of this all-girl group of Georgia on vocals/bass, Libby on guitar/vocals and Amy brandishing guitar and last but not least Molly banging the life out of her set of drums. They make up Young States from Norwich who formed in 2015 and this is their second offering on Something To Write Home About. After launching their debut EP 'Down to You', they won rave reviews and airplay from BBC introducing and featured in the pages of 'Kerrang' magazine. To give you an idea of what they sound they will appeal to followers of bands such as Pvris, Mallory Knox and Brand New. Their new EP 'Past Truths, Present Lies' has been released on the same label and has themes meandering through it such as personal growth and letting go of the things that have previously caused you pain if that is possible. Georgia writes most of the music and the themes portrayed in this EP come from her own experiences in her less-than-happy start to life. Opener '29' is a good starter, and is the standout track for me on this five song EP. The band met at music school where where Libby was on a sound engineering course, and the others were on music performance courses at the time. It was guitarist Amy who got Young States together as she was bored of seeing male band after male band, and wanted to form an all-female group. She approached the others in the corridors of college after seeing them carrying their instruments. 'Past Truths, Present Lies' was produced by Drew Lawson (Roam/Summerlin/Me Vs Hero) and mastered by Grant Berry (All Time Low/Roam/Boston Manor).
