intro
Disappointing and cleaned-up new 7 inch of Johnny Marr and Andy Rourke's pre Smiths funk band Freak Party
To be honest, the end of both sides of this 7" single is the best thing about it, as it has been left unremastered and shows the funk guitar and bass of Andy Rourke and Johnny Marr before they met Morrissey. Producer Mike Bennett along with Simon Wolstencroft of The Fall got together and cleaned up the tape with the help of ex-Smiths guitarist Craig Gannon, wrote some words and got a brilliant session singer in called Angie Brown to sing over it. The track is very much a Hacienda funk number, but as it's aimed at a market of Smiths fans it doesn't work at all. If you are looking for a dance track with funk all over it, then it will be perfect. It has already been a hit in Holland, but I would have preferred it if they left it with the original hiss of a C60 with added funk sounding of it's time. Here it sounds chart like. The B side is an instrumental with Simon talking about its history. A great disappointment
