intro
Fine between albums EP from London-based indiepop band, Cosines
Designed as a stop-gap between the band’s debut album 'Oscillations' and its as yet untitled follow up, 'Transitions' offers real diversity across its four tracks and is more than just a throwaway release. Opening song 'Let’s Start It Over' is a real stomping affair driven by duelling guitar and keyboard with singer Alice Hubley longing for a chance to rewind the clock whilst remembering the failings of before with brutal honesty on lines like "You never could see all the love in those eyes when you tried just to get between those thighs." Instrumental 'Ra' is reminiscent of mid-period the Experimental Pop Band or indeed German band Stereo Total in its keyboard noodling grooves, while 'Dunbar' is a fine upbeat duet between Simon Nelson and Hubley having a side swipe at developers taking over venues for other purposes and ripping the heart out of underground musical scenes in pursuit of profit. 'Chaos Theory', the final track, is a slower song very much in the vein of Summer Camp and yet again Hubley bemoans a failed relationship – "The image of London of romance and thunder has left me cold to the bone/The flirting was fun, but this isn’t where I can call home." All in all a decent EP. Roll on the new album. If it builds on 'Transitions', it will be a corker.
