intro

Inspiring debut EP from enterprising young Rotherham-based R and B singer-songwriter and musician, Jason Quainoo

My wife was walking through Nottingham doing a bit of retail therapy when she was accosted by a group of lively young upstarts sporting the gear and dishing out CD copies of a chap that goes by the name of Jason Quainoo. After a short chat about the difference between R&B in our day as opposed to R&B in today’s language, she took it home and handed it over with a loving smile to me and said, “Look what I got you from town.” Jason Quainoo was born on 11th October 1989. The lad is a young upcoming singer-songwriter from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, and has an innate passion for music which has literally taken over his life over the past few years. Now I am not the person to acknowledge that he has good looks, I'll let the girls do that, but I can vouch for the smooth vocals, and humble down-to-earth attitude with which he has been mesmerising and winning over new fans on a daily basis from all walks of life, ages and genders. He makes me think of Wretch 32 and Plan B in places. Quainoo has been Inspired over the years by the likes of Boys II Men, Usher and Chris Brown, and his material and his ability to put across a wide range of emotions in his music, ranging from upbeat party anthems to tear jerking ballads, have enabled him to drastically increase his fan base over the last few years. Jason Quainoo is becoming such a popular artist that he boasts sales of his independently released demo CD to the tune of 100.000 units, all distributed by himself and his street team throughout the UK, which incidentally is where I got mine from. The guy has something as he sells his CDs in the streets from city to city, trying to gain a wider awareness of himself as an artist. And it really is no wonder that booking requests for this artist come through regularly thanks to his great image, current commercial musical style, soul and character. Over the past few years Quainoo has performed at many venues and nightclubs around the UK as well as opening for a variety of acts including chart topper Tinchy Stryder at Doncaster Keepmoat Stadium in 2010, So Solid Crew in the Liquid night club in Rotherham, and also Bruno Mars. This is an EP of some stature. The opener ‘Shake the World ‘is a catchy pop tune that wouldn't go a miss in the arenas, never mind the clubs.’ I’m The Man’ features Ajay Carter, and ‘Rock It’ is a euphoric dance number of majestic proportions. ‘RNC ‘takes a turn down a darker path, while Champion is a brilliant showcase for Quainoo’s soaring vocals, and proves this point over a military style drum beat. Jason has received and continued to receive much support and praise from the local media and music scene, having had his music played numerous times on BBC Introducing and other regional stations. His fan base continues to grow rapidly, indicating that this young man is almost certainly a star in the making. And it’s no wonder either, with the pure professionalism in which he not only makes his hip hop based music, but delivers it on stage and promotes it off stage. Perhaps others in the same boat as Quainoo should take long look at what he is doing for himself and take note. It is not going to come to you. You've got to go out and get it. And he is doing just that.
