intro
Unremarkable and bland debut album from New York-based singer-songwriter, Jon Sandler
Over-polished and bland debut album from New York-based singer-songwriter, Jon Sandler He has the sharp suit and he has the New York zip code, but sadly Jon Sandler doesn’t manage to achieve the brilliance of fellow New Yorkers the Strokes or even Adam Green. His album is just too safe, too polished, too tailor-made for some tedious American teen drama. It lacks the gritty edginess both in sound and lyric to ignite these ears or set this pulse racing. In short it is M.O.R. indie that will probably be gratefully lapped up by the kind of people that latched onto the Fray or Coldplay. As you may have deduced, the album doesn’t float my boat, but that’s not to say it is without merit. The singles ‘Stars Align’ and ‘Take My Time’ are radio friendly enough and taken in isolation from the album itself probably aren’t too bland, but as part of it they just fade into the back ground. I hate being over critical, as I possess the musical ability of a radiator, but I am tired of this kind of music now. Rest-assured, Jon Sandler with probably be huge in a couple of years, adored by the ‘yummy mummy’ brigade and the soundtrack to many a Yurt weekend away with Hugh and Janey. Thankfully I won’t be invited.
