intro
Fantastic mixture of old and new songs on 21st album from 70's punks the Vibrators, who are joined by several other punk and new wave musicians including Hugh Cornwell, Chris Spedding and MC5's Wayne Kramer
It is thirty-seven years since the Vibrators formed in London and the band's remaining original members Knox and Eddie are joined by ex-bassist Pat Collier, who twiddles the knobs to produce this, their 21st studio album. They are joined by a host of celebrity punk and new wave friends on this latest release, named 'On the Guest List' because of the involvement of many notable 'friends'. Chris Spedding, who gave the band their first support, offered axe duties on 'Second Skin', and there are also contributions from among many others members of the Damned, the Dickies and MC5. It is clearly an 'old school' punk album, very much in the accustomed style that the London four piece made their own. It features three of their classic oldies, which are all given a new lease of life. 'Automatic Lover', being the first of these, is followed by 'Baby Baby', arguably one of the finest punk/pop singles ever written upon which vocal duties are picked up by Campino from Die Toten Hosen. Stan Lee and Leonard Graves Phillips take guitar and vocal duties on the magnificent 'Whips and Furs' from the classic 1977 debut album, 'Pure Mania'. Other notable efforts come from Nicky Garratt from the UK Subs who takes guitar and bass on the Ohio, and ex-Stranglers front man Hugh Cornwell who takes the lead vocal and guitar role on 'Rain to Town'. MC5's Wayne Kramer chips in on 'Prisoner in the Mirror'. There are many more punk collaborators on this 16 track offering, which even for the nostalgia element is definitely worth a place on the guest list.
