intro
Our Website of the Month is 'This is Not Retro', a website which focuses on the current work of artists who first came to fame in the 1980s.
'This is Not Retro’ www.thisisnotretro.com is the website of Richard Evans, who has worked in the music industry for many years. Subtitled “80’s music. All grown up,” it focuses on the current work of artists who first came to fame in the 1980s. Originally called ‘Remember the Eighties’, Richard renamed it and rebranded it as ‘This is Not Retro’ in late 2011. As Richard, who grew up in the 1980’s, explains, “I started the site in 2002 because I realised that there was no real media outlet for the current activities of a lot of the artists I considered 'mine', and yet so many of those same artists are still working musicians, still putting out great music and are constantly fighting to reconnect with an audience without being relegated to the 'eighties nostalgia' bin.” Recent interviews have included Mike Score from A Flock of Seagulls, Marcella Detroit and Carol Decker of T’Pau. It has its own shop which sells items by Richard’s own This is Not Retro label. There are also reviews, concert listings and regular news items, and it has Facebook and Twitter pages.
