intro

Lavish 60's and 70's-influenced indie pop on second single from Birmingham-based band Capital Sun, which wryly captures current working life perfectly

'The Work Song' is Birmingham-based Capital Sun's second single. Billed as an "observation of human habits, routine and the British compulsive attitude to work", this feels bang on topic in these days of double dip recessions and redundancies. It is a lush mix of jangling guitars and jaunty drums. I love the clean upbeat sound contrasting with lyrics such as "The contributions that I make/ Line the pockets of those that take/Like scumbags on Jeremy Kyle", and "I've had enough of working my life away/I've had enough of wishing my life away". It's 2 minutes and 33 seconds of pop that mixes the sunny sounds of the late 60's and early 70's with bang up to date wry lyrics. An anthem for every fed up commuters everywhere. B-side Why Am I Me? is much slower and introspective with beautiful guitar work that conjures up images of rain drops on a window pane. All good soul searching requires some rain.
