intro
Graceful latest album from thoughtful British-based alternative folk group, Urusen
Easygoing folk tinged songs with pleasant melodies- London based band Urusen releases their new album 'This is Where We Meet'. Urusen’s music brings to mind contemporaries like Midlake, while at once conjuring ghosts of folk legends past like Fairport Convention. Urusen’s use of an array of instruments including violin, cello, banjo, mandolin and harmonium makes for something beautiful. The band includes members Peter Beatty, Jay Darwish, Kieran Houston, Ben Please and Nick Ullman. The new album flows from the start. 'Wonderland' is warm, smooth and soothing. The lyrics fascinate: “I never said you couldn’t understand/I just said you live in a wonderland.” The sentiment is not bitter, but sung with love as the narrator states, “I’ll still be standing here.” The singer on 'Step Off The Train' remembers lost friends, accompanied by a resonant emotive cello. On 'Fifty & 9' the storyteller sings of a catharsis of tears that join in a moving, sparkling stream. These songs are thoughtful and philosophical. 'In Search of the Delta' is mellifluous - a sweeping healing big river of a tune and an album highlight. On 'A Once Was Tramp And Tree' we hear a rich ode to a coming storm. 'Wanted' is a moody, sombre yet spiritual song that seems to speak to enduring love. The lovely closing ballad 'From This Country' shares lyrical images of “stars in the skies and birds in my eyes.” The singer questions, “I wonder if we’ll ever find our way back home.” Urusen’s album 'This Is Where We Meet' is in the end a graceful alt- folk experience.
