intro
Euphoric and uplifting debut album from acclaimed Swedish electro band, Simian Ghost
‘Youth’ is the debut album by hotly tipped Swedish electro band Simian Ghost. With acclaimed writer and producer Sebastian Arnstrom at the helm, they have made a beautiful, fresh and invigorating debut album. There are moments throughout this album where you just feel instantly uplifted, particularly early on with the title track which has an air of utter bliss about it from start to finish. There is a complex simplicity that weaves its way throughout 'Youth' that just draws you right in and shelters you from everything else. It sounds like the sort of music Thom Yorke might make if he were on some sort of happy pills. The layers of keys and synth that are drenched throughout have a magical texture about them which is quite simply euphoric in places. It’s like Simian Ghost have managed to musically find the key to happiness and they’ve laid it down on record. ’The Capitol’ echoes with a sort of Fleet Foxes vibe, but at the same time without really sounding anything like them with the emphasis being all on the vocal melodies. Lead single ‘Wolf Girl’ has a real tint of Passion Pit about it, having that little spark of something you can’t quite put your finger on, but it just gets you and makes you feel mushy inside, without any air or cheesiness, guilt or self-conscience. Simian Ghost again do not sound exactly like them, but I get the same feeling listening to them as I did when I first laid ears on the Lightning Seeds. I fear if I mention any more mushy stuff it will detract from the overall good vibes I have received from ‘Youth’ but please believe me when I say that this is an album that will lift your soul
