intro

Uninspiring electronica on new single from Manchester-based band, No Ceremony

little is known about No Ceremony other than they come from Manchester. This single reminds me of ‘Wonderful Life’ by Hurts, the breakthrough single by that other Manchester synth-pop band, Hurts. That left me cold, and on this release as well I feel that No Ceremony are being far too clever for their own good. ‘HurtLove’ is piano-based, with a distorted child like vocal and some super heavy bass. It sounds as odd as the Cocteau Twins, but as if they were a dance band and nowhere near as interesting. ‘WeAreMe’ is better formed with more of an edge to it. The vocals are more comprehensible, and are sung as a duet. It really sounds like part two of track one. It is a dance number, but again essentially background music. It is the sort of music that you might enjoy while waiting for the main attraction, but for me at least No Ceremony are not the main attraction.
