intro
Long anticipated debut album from acclaimed Manchester indie folk act Air Cav which lives up to its high expectations
Having originally stepped out in 2008 when they received great praise from renowned taste maker Steve Lamacq, Air Cav have finally got themselves a full album with which to follow up the hype. The first word that springs to mind listening to Air Cav is ‘warm’. With their subtle use of violin, layers of fantastic and patiently used bass lines and some fantastic little guitar hooks it is no wonder that producer Noah Mintz (Broken Social Scene, Stars, the Dears), saw fit to lend his expert hand to the mastering of ‘Don’t Look Indoors’. Lead single ‘Call to Arms’ opens the album perfectly and paints a perfect picture of what is to come. Fans of the previously mentioned Broken Social scene would certainly find tunes like ‘Allicance’ and ‘The Way I Think About My Life' very appealing with that ultra modern and hip twist on indie folk, which while not being too twee is not afraid of the gentler side of things. ‘Picking At the Bones’ delves mildly into an almost folk-rock tinted sound with the inventive use of violins brilliantly showcased here. Think a younger and less ferocious Levellers and you’re getting there. ‘So Others May Live’ provides a fine platform to singer/guitarist Chris Nields' song writing capabilities, which certainly harks back to the excitement they mustered several years ago. This album will no doubt be received with much anticipation and high hopes and fully delivers on these
