intro

Efficient debut album from Lancaster-based band Stuart Anthony's Lost Band, who are Ian McNabb's regular support act

The Big Light Secret’ is the new album from Ian McNabb’s regular Northern touring support act, Stuart Anthony’s Long Lost Band. ‘Something Came Out of the Dark/Survival’ is solid singer/songwriter material in the style of David Gray and Mike Scott, while ‘Refuge’ is pleasant-sounding, laidback and very carefree. ‘For My Sins’ is joyful-sounding, a song to forget that bad day too, while the title track is smooth in tone and with an elegant groove to that kicks it a nice direction. ‘The Hawk’ pushes towards the late, great Tim Buckley and shines because of that fact. ‘A Tale of Two Masters’ is as gentle and lush as a poppy Nick Drake. ‘There Is No Sun' is slow and moody with some solid guitar work that gives it a lift. ‘Play the Part’ is a folk number somewhere between Drake and Buckley, and ends a decent enough album that, while offering new, is pleasant on the ears.
