intro
Spellbinding and evocative second album from Brooklyn and Detroit super group Glass Rock, which consists of members of both Tall Firs and Soft Location
Sultry and alluring, Kathy Leisen’s lead vocals are also moody and distinctive. Glass Rock come from Detroit by way of Brooklyn and, utilizing moving guitars, bass and synthesizer on their second album, 'Baby Baby Baby', achieve a sound that is subtly spellbinding. Glass Rock is the union of Brooklyn, New York’s Tall Firs and Detroit’s Soft Location and includes members Matt Kantor, Leisen, Dave Mies, Aaron Mullan and Ryan Sawyer. The opener 'Better Than Me' starts off with delicate notes and an easy groove. The effect of Leisen’s vocals is hypnotic: “I got no more chances to try/There’s been too much damage.” The sound is slightly psychedelic and ethereal, somehow derivative and classic, yet original. With an appealing moodiness, Glass Rock’s lyrics link lovely poetic images including fallen stars, delicate rainbows and tears that fall like diamonds. 'Another Summer' possesses an entrancing groove, casting its spell as the electric guitar drips slow notes. With ambient instrumentals, this music is subtle and beautiful: “I believe in the fire of your life.” 'Documentary' captures a dream like flowing quality with imagery that is cinematic: “It was the day of creation...The air had died… The lights floating on the water.” 'Wasted' captures a hazy mood that is highly effective. The instrumentals shimmer and Leisen’s vocals are touching: “I’ve been waiting for the sunshine/Now it’s knocking down my door.” The effect is of an optimism existing in the darkness. Glass Rock’s sound is at once eerie and graceful, with elegant vocals and fine instrumentals. 'Wild Horses' is the evocative closer: “Wild horses, just watch them run/Wild horses can’t deny my love.” On 'Baby Baby Baby', Glass Rock creates a sound that is both beautiful and memorable- this is a band to watch for.
