intro
Surprisingly conformist pop on second album from Belgium-based group, Benny Zen and the Syphilis Madmen
Ever so often the clumsy accent unwantonly gives away where a band might be from, yet without any show of irony or shame, Benny Zen and the Syphilis Madmen take pride in being Belgian. And why not! The only reason why Belgium ever split apart was because Holland trailed behind. Dutch luddites they were, and by then the 'Hollanders' were the ones in power. Such a notion lingered on and 200 years later, Belgium, Antwerp still goes before the whimsical bands assembled from Amsterdam and such places. Risen from the ashes of Mitsoobishy Jackson and dEUS, Benny Zen strike all the right chords. Yet the lyrics may just prove a little too daft, or too demanding perhaps. The runaway chartbound biggies on this album pile up altogether to be quite numerous. 'Got a Lot of Horseshit Left' is the album's first temptation towards finding this equation. The heart-felt cry of 'Isabelle' is another plea that can't pass by unnoticably and on many tracks, Benny Zen rejoices in what can only count as camp fire congregations.
