intro
Uninspiring and formualic nu-folk on debut album from Brighton-based band, the Robot Heart
Although they are from Brighton, the Robot Heart are no extravagant hipsters. They play simplistic folky tunes, usually just a few chords with lots of harmony vocals going ooh-aah like in the average TV soap commercial. Their debut album is sophisticated vagueness, inarticulate quasi-darkness and I must admit when listening to it that I went between either bursting out laughing or simply feeling annoyed. Yet, if you're into new age type of folk music and you do not like to be challenged, or disturbed with pleasant surprise, then the songs may appear lovely. They, however, soon sound interchangeable. The Robot Heart has supported Tunng and that has been a major source of inspiration of them. The fragility of the Robot Heart sounds studied. Play in the background if you need to concentrate, It lacks originality and verges on the edge of pretentious muzak. 'Lost In Stereo' would probably sound okay on radio but that's about all, I am afraid. I, however, fell asleep listening to Fleet Foxes as well.
