intro
Engaging first album from much hyped London-based indie rockers and band of the moment, the Vaccines
The Vaccines are the current hot tips for the year and have made a decent album which edges between both Franz Ferdinand and the Rakes in their finest moments. 'Wreckin' Bar (Ra Ra Ra)' is a fast-paced rocker in the true spirit of the Ramones or early Generation X . At only just over a minute, you don't have time to get bored with it. 'If You Wanna' is not so fast, more like Franz, but slowed down and again quite punky. 'A Lack Of Understanding' has a cool swagger with its edgy guitar recalling early U2. 'Blow It Up' is slow paced, but rocks steadily and keeps its listener engaged. 'Wetsuit' is another slow, but gentle rocker that demands attention. 'Norgaard' is fast-paced punky fun. A pogoing classic from from its first riff, it doesn't slow down and is the best track here. 'Post Break Up Sex' is the next best thing here, and a recent single, makes makes you want to throw your arms instantly up into the air and dance to it. 'Under Your Thumb recalls the Strokes with its guitar work. 'All in White' is a well-paced rocker, while 'Wolf Pack' is reminiscent of White Lies'. 'Family Friend' is slow and moody, a comedown track to end the album, until a wall of feedback kicks in. A promising and enjoyable debut album.
