intro
Monotonous and boring 1988 album from psychobilly band the Meteors, which has recently been reissued
The Meteors claim to be filed under the genre of psychobilly, a fusion of punk and rockabilly. On a few listens it should be filed as joke-a-billy as in truth there are three decent songs here and two of them are covers. This is like a parody soundtrack from John Waters' 'Parody Cry Baby'. The Meteors have not covered themselves in glory here as ,unlike the Cramps who totally nailed the punk/rockabilly/swamp/garage crossover perfectly, the recordings are patchy and the songs are pretty much identical to each other. The fourth track and probably the pick of the bunch, 'I'm Invisible Man', is ruined by a reverberated cry of "Terminal Tom Terminal Tom, he submerges turtles in butter". What? It's a long wait to the bonus track, a cover of Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs' 'Little Red Riding Hood'. It is not as good as the original and in fact not even as good as the 999 version on their 1981 'Concrete' album. This is a re-issue, yet the question should be though why it was ever issued in the first place....
