intro
Demanding and ultimately irksome largely instrumental electro rock on second album from Leeds-based band, Vessels
This electro experimental pop five piece from Leeds have been receiving rave reviews for their recent bizarrely-titled single,'Meatman, Piano Tuner,Prostitute'. Five of the nine tracks on this are instrumental and in my opinion quite hard work. After a few listens this has not really grown on me. Yes, there is some wall of sound screaming cinematic guitars and pounding dual drums, but after a while it becomes irksome. While it is plain that the band, who are all multi instrumentalists, are technically minded and fantastic musicians, it was tracks like 'Recur', one of the few with vocals which worked for me for me, as did 'Meatman, Piano Tuner, Prostitute' which sounded much like Radiohead. The stand out track for me was 'Heal', another vocal track. On the whole despite trying hard, I could not really get the bigger picture of 'Helioscope' and it just did not do it for me.
