intro
Quietly impressive dream pop on debut album from Sea Above Sky Below, the project of musician Seb Pidgeon
'Kissing the Gunner's Daughter' is the debut album of dreampop project Sea Above Sky Below and is a concept album, decent on music but the vocals of main man abd bredoom artist Seb Pidgeon, however, occasionally let it down. 'November' starts it off and mostly instrumental sounds like a slowed-down Slowdive. 'The Gunner's Daughter Part 2' is a big mellow pop number with attitude and an 80's sound. 'Rendlesham' is fierier, upbeat with grit, but the vocals are weak and wimpy in the same way as those of Roland Orzabel from Tears For Fears. '2200SWT' is an acoustic-strummed guitar number, which suits the vocals here. It is very mellow and radio friendly until it moves on and becomes like a moody Cure. 'Montauk' is another atmospheric acoustic number, while 'Receipt, sounds like a slowed-down Wedding Present until the vocals kick in and speed it up. 'Whisper on the Stairs' has soft vocals, while the music is harder almost reminiscent of an early 4AD records release in style. 'Circles and Squares' is well paced and fast, while 'Everyday Dreams' has a Marr-like hook and romantic vocals. 'Where the Monsters are' has a big smei-acoustic 80's sound and 'Sweeping Away the Leaves' has hard-strummed guitars and hard-hitting drums, over the which the vocals float on top. 'A Station With One Platform' has a dirtier sound and quite fast, while 'Cavalry' is very soft and slow but picks up pace half way through and brings this overall quietly impressive album to a close.
