Infectiously catchy new single from godfathers of emo, My Chemical Romance
Darlings of the dandy and eye linered emo movement, My Chemical Romance have been around for nearly a decade now. By your average fifteen year old's standards that makes them not only ancient but also mainstream these days so really the pressure is on to deliver. The single version minus the spoken word intro starts in the style of a slightly more demented Guitar Wolf (and that is saying something). The version with intro has a serious doom and gloom vibe which just makes the nananabloodynananana even more incongruent. There is a clean and dirty cut of both versions. I can't say the dirty version really adds much. Well, except swear words. It's catchy enough but I am confused because if I wasn't looking at the CD cover I would swear blind this was a late 90's Offspring album track. Maybe My Chemical Romance are counting on the fact that their target audience were still innocent, fresh faced and sweet smelling little children back then and so they will think this is all new. Plus a nice chanty chorus is always good when rwo pints of cider and black have rendered you incapable of coherent speech. I don't hate it. I can't because one spin was all it took to lodge itself firmly in my head. Damn them.
