intro
Esoteric and dreamy, but ultimately unremarkable five song EP from Glaswegian electronic act Laki Mera, released to coincide with the re-release of their 2008 debut album of the same name
From Glasgow, a bunch of four laid back musicians with time on their hands warm up for the re-release of their debut album of the same name with a five track EP. Trip-hop with no fat beats or pop music without recognisable melody? Laki Mera's sound fits in halfway between the two. The general mood and the production are fine, but the 'Clutter EP' lacks a bit of a bite. If you like the esoteric and angelically subdued agony of many Icelandic, Scottish and Northern English musicians, you'll love this. The 'Clutter EP' is however way too inarticulate for my taste. Probe Plus's boss Geoff Davies once introduced the term 'noodlings' for Cocteau Twins puppies and I would like to quote the great man on this occasion. Do not let comparisons fool you here. You can't dance to this at all. You could only dream away. Pleasant but unremarkable.

Despite Glaswegian electronic quartet's Laki Mera's military efficiency and mechanical production, Sarah Mwangi finds much that is achingly human in their music at a show at the Barfly in London |
