intro
Melancholic, but gradually impressive sixth album from Pagan Wanderer Lu, the electronic project of troubled Welsh musician Andy Regan
Troubled Welshman Andy Regan keeps wishing for Spanish birds to fly his way and contemplates his rainy misery in the meantime, which implies the occasion of another album. 'The Great British Public Becomes Self-Aware' is followed by 'God in His Wisdom and Compassion Spares the Mona Lisa from Being Engulfed by the Dying Sun'. Statements which cast shadows ahead of what follows but, hang on, at about two minutes into 'God in His Wisdom ..' track, the Pagan Wanderer Lu allows in musicians and a producer and things improve tremendously. The watery title track sits in the middle as 'European Monsoon' sets out for more jingly jangling loveliness. Very determined now with a 'Self-Doubt Gun', the Pagan Wanderer Lu approaches 'A Girl Named Aeroplane' before reaching 'Westminster Quarters' close to the end of the album. 'Version 5' might hit you for 6. Languishing initially, the Pagan Wanderer Lu ultimately overwhelms his self-doubt. Ignore the first few tracks. There is a bit of a bite towards the end.
