intro
Enjoyablly infectious pop on latest single from strings-drenched harmonic American rockers fun.
fun. are…well…they’re fun, and thank God, for that. I was slightly worried in this age of cool and irony that they would be some miserable sods making their way round the London hipster scene which I do so detest. But they are not. Not one bit. They live up to their name and are a worthy use of it. As soon as I popped fun. on the stereo, they immediately reminded me of rock monsters Queen. fun. also make songs that just make you smile but without being overly simple. There’s enough going on to make it really exciting. Another similarity that came too my mind in their use of strings and sing-your-heart-out vocals was Electric Light Orchestra. That whole wall of sound thing is completely down and brought to life by these glorious young un’s. There are far too many serious types out there and even more boring chorus-driven throwaway pop acts as well– in all forms, rock, pop, punk, dance, rap, you name it, it seems they are 10 a penny being churned out at the minute. Very few seem like the real deal, because there’s so many that do exactly the same thing. fun. just seem to have that twinkle in their eye and are brave enough to go the whole hog and crank it out. This is incredibly enjoyable stuff and I anticipate with summer looming that they soon could be moving on to bigger and better things.
