intro

Perfectly pitched indie pop on distinctive new single from London-based band Hexicon

On 'Something Strange Beneath the Stars', their current single, Hexicon delivers smooth and soothing pop with falsetto harmonies. Hexicon, formed in 2004, are the songwriting duo of Michael Collins and Paul Rains, joined by third member Thomas Allard. Both Collins and Rains are also with the band Allo Darlin’. Hexicon is additionally releasing their first album 'The Blossom Sighs'. 'Something Strange Beneath the Stars' is an enchanting song possessing a lovely melody. Both the vocal and the backing vocals are beautiful, accompanied by a crystal clear arrangement including stinging vibrato guitar and the fine sound of French horn. The lyric is also compelling: “If I make it out alive, would you escape with me?/Sky is falling in on you and me.” The B side 'Still Here' has a warm personal tone. 'Still Here' showcases the lower ranges of Michael Collins’ voice, with a down to earth feel. Once again the lyric is appealing: "It’s the greatest puzzle that’s ever been- how we got ourselves into this.” With two distinctly different melodies, both songs fully connect with the listener.
