intro
Our Website of the Month is Mudkiss, a punk and alternative music magazine
Mudkiss’ www.mudkiss.com is an on-line music magazine that is co-run by Mel Smith from the North West of England and Lorraine Reeves from London. Mel edits the site, while Lorraine has successfully staged a Mudkiss event in London and is looking to extend this idea in the future. ‘Mudkiss’ has a small, but highly dedicated team of writers and concentrates on music primarily from the punk and alternative sector. ‘Mudkiss‘ is a self-described "constant flowing fanzine", and,up-dated several times a month, was first established in June 2008. There are interviews with band and musicians, and also more unusually artists, authors, organisers, poets, journalists and photographers. Earlier this year ‘Mudkiss’ published a 350 page long book entitled simply ‘Mudkiss Interviews 2008’, which contained all its first year of interviews, including those with the Buzzcocks, Goldblade and Alarm guitarist James Stevenson; writers Mick Middles, Nina Antonia and Alan Parker, and photographer Kevin Cummins. Interviews over the last few months have included Canadian singer-songwriter Chris Valentine, Therapy?, Magazine, the Men They Couldn’t Hang, Wednesday 13, Steve Harley, the Only Ones and Vic Godard, and author David Nolan. As well as interviews there are live, album, single, and book reviews. It has also photo galleries and a ‘Special Features’ section, which contains features on classic car and other nostalgia weekends, album launch parties and author’s talks. ‘Mudkiss’ is imaginatively conceived and designed, and, enthusiastically written and put together, is both thoughtful and original in its outlook. They have another Interview book coming out which will hold all the 2009 interviews and which they promise will be even bigger and better than last year’s. There will also be a Mudkiss 2010 calendar going on sale shortly with live show photos, all taken by Mel herself.
