intro
Fantastic debut album from versatile new London-based band Fanfarlo, who have recently supported Snow Patrol
‘Reservoir’ is the debut album by the London band, Farnfarlo, who are so much loved by Snow Patrol that they had them support them earlier this year on their ‘Arena’ tour. The original issue of this was limited to 500 copies which appeared in a box hand made by the band and sold out in a week, but. do not fear, as the band have now in conjunction with Atlantic Records reissued it on their own label, Canvasback Records. ‘I'm a Pilot’ opens the album. Singer Simon Balthazar’s vocal is reminiscent of Brandon Flowers of the Killers and the Go Betweens’ Robert Forster, while the music which backs it sounds like a lush Coldplay. It is a good head bopper. ‘Ghosts’ again has a Coldplay vibe, but Simon’s vocals recall this time Antony Hegarty from Antony and the Johnsons. Violins give it a slight twee sound. ‘Luna’ has a fast paced new wave sound and again recalls the Killers. ‘Comets’ is a slow paced ballad with a smooth trumpet sound. ‘Fire Escape’ is a summery upbeat number and again features a trumpet. ‘The Walls are Coming Down’ recalls Jeff Buckley, but is also very commercial and has a big pop sound. ‘Drowning Men’ has an angular Talking Heads’ vibe, while ‘If It is Growing’ is reminiscent of a melancholic Belle and Sebastian.‘Harold T. Wilkins, or How to Wait For a Very Long Time’ starts gently, but speeds up and finishes sounding like a fun Roxy Music number. ‘Finish Line’ again is reminiscent of a fast Talking Heads, while ‘Good Morning Midnight’, which ends the album, is a soft instrumental. ‘Reservoir’ is a fantastic debut album from a versatile and exciting band.
