intro

Fast-sounding post punk on new EP from New York-formed, but now LA-based three-piece, the Ettes

The Ettes are from New York, but are based in LA. They have recently toured with Kings of Leon. Their latest EP, 'Danger is', has already been released digitally and is now available on CD. The Ettes are a two girl and one boy line up, with Poni on drums and vocals, Coco on vocals and guitar and Jem on bass and vocals. They play fast bouncy post punk, with a stripped down sound. It definitely owes a lot to 80s bands like Blondie, especially the vocals. There are five tracks on the EP, with a couple of them being live tracks. They sound like they're a fun band to see live. I think the best track on the EP is the second track 'Lo and Behold'. It's got surf guitar and is a good example of pop punk. Live track 'The Rules' kind of reminded me of Hole. It was recorded in 2004 and they've come a long way since then - less screaming grungey and more pop. I listened to the EP several times, it grew on me, and I certainly didn't get bored. There are also 3 bonus videos on the CD version in a variety of digital formats.
