Atmospheric, but one-paced Daniel Johnston cover on new single from English singer-songwriter Richard Walter, whose first album is out later this year

Richard Walters is a singer-songwriter with an acoustic guitar, who (according to his press pack) “resolutely refuses to rock out”. We shall have to wait and see, because his album isn’t going to be available until September. Here, he covers a Daniel Johnson song, and the qualities that got him praise from the Guardian are evident - a sense of atmosphere and a nice voice. But this song is disappointingly one paced and, just as it seems to be getting going, it stops. Ho hum.
