intro
Our Website of the Month is hinah, a French-born non-profit based record label and music website
hinah www.hinah.com is the brainchild of French natives, but now German-based husband and wife aurent and Eloise Steclebout. First established in 2001, it is both a non-profit based record label and music website. The record label puts out previously unreleased recordings (live recordings, radio sessions, demos) in various formats. “The hinah series”, which runs now to 29 releases, consists of home-made CD-Rs that come in editions of only 50 copies and are sold at a very low price. There are also “hinah gifts” and “hinah split singles”, which are MP3 split singles that are downloadable for free. The hinah roster has included acts such as Magic 12, Melmac, the Transmissionary Six , Doug Hoekstra, Peace Harbour, Devendra Banhart, James William Hindle, the Green Apple Sea and the Empty House Co-operative. As well as providing details about all these releases, the hinah site features Laurent’s black and white concert photos, and also exhibitions from some of Laurent and Eloise’s favourite artists. The hinah site also has extensive links, play lists, and book and record reviews. hinah has been one of Pennyblackmusic’s favourite sites since it first went on-line and we believe is one of the best resources for independent music on the internet.
