intro

Lo-fi latest single from London-based, but French couple and musical duo John and Jehn

John and Jehn are a young French couple and musical duo, who moved to London two years ago, and who released their self-titled debut album in May. ‘Fear, Fear, Fear’, the second single from it, is like most of John and Jehn’s material lo-fi and raw. John’s guitar is scratchy and primitive in tone, and it sounds like he is playing on a very old and cheap instrument. Jehn’s organ steals from the Doors’ Love Her Madly’, but sounds far tinnier, and her vocal is similarly roughshod and raucous. Yet, for all their raggedness, rather like the Velvet Underground, who are the obvious main influence here, there is a strongly vibrating under layer of melody. The B side, ‘Sister’, is a previously unreleased number, which features John on slurred vocals, around which Jehn providing backing waspishly weaves, and it combines rumbling guitar with a droning Cramps-style organ. John and Jehn, of course, are not doing anything that hasn’t been done a million times before, but happy to shadow their 60’s and 70’s garage punk heroes, do so both persuasively and well.
