intro
Dreamy and gentle debut album from laidback British electronica duo, Renfro
Dreamscaping is the term here. The duo's debut is an almost pastoral affair with song structures taken from sampled field recordings and found sounds. Singer Tim Branney keeps rather quiet and lays his vocals on the layers of electronica with an extra gentle care. Recorded in Miami by Kramer, 'Mathematics' very much is a laidback, sunburned album. That it doesn't evolve into a bore is thanks to the arranged short-circuit clips that became an integral part of Renfro's sound. Most of the 'excitement' comes towards the last few tracks, probably meant to follow the healing process of the ultra relaxed first 9 tracks. From a cynical and sarcastic point of view though it's just a collection of 10CC tributes. Lost in sound, but in a good way.
