intro
Diverse, but uninspiring new EP from Leeds-based band This Et Al, their first release since their debut album of last year
This Et Al are Wu, Ben, Chris and Steve, and 'The Figure Eight EP' is the Leeds-based band's first release since their debut album,'Baby Machine', of last year. It is being released on 10 inch vinyl as well as all the usual formats. 'Figure 8' is punky in an American grungy kind of way. It ticks over, but there is hardly anything new going on in here. 'Medicine Hammer' recalls a darker, progressive Coldplay. There the shadow of the Chameleons in its guitar line in places, while the melody has something of commercial Radiohead. 'Ice Age' is a head mover. It has a bit of a swagger to it, but it is far too long and drawn out. 'The Tale of Frosty Jackson' is my favourite of all the four tracks on the EP, but nothing here has really impressed me much at all. It is a moody instrumental, for which more thought went into it and that sounds a little like Mogwai.
