'Disco Not Disco' is a fun collection of post-punk and electro tracks from the 70’s and 80’s (although the cover claims the tracks are from 1974-1986, the earliest song featured on the album is actually from 1976 – what the reasoning was behind adding two extra years on was I’ll never know). It’s an interesting tour through ten years of leftfield tunes and comes with a great little booklet that tells you about each artist and their track. There are some crackingly funky basslines on offer here, most obviously perhaps on Shriekback’s ‘My Spine Is The Bassline’, as well as ‘Mind Your Own Business’ by Delta 5 and ‘Binary’ by Kazino. Other choice tracks on this compilation are opener ‘Launderette’ by Vivien Goldman, Konk’s ‘Your Life’ and ‘Don’t Lose Control’ by Material, a great example of early dance music coming from New York. Well worth getting your wallet out for, 'Disco Not Disco' is a great record, particularly if you are one of those people that likes to fashion their walk to the music playing in their earphones – these tracks give you quite the strut! I hope they quote that on promotional material.
