intro
Slick, but throwaway electro pop on latest single from Norwegian trio, Lorraine
I can never make my mind up about Lorraine in the same way as I can’t make my mind up about the Pet Shop Boys. Are you allowed to like a pop band with slick, seamless songs? Are we only allowed to like songs that have another purpose other than to entertain? Such is the dilemma of liking pop bands that makes songs for the moment, songs that are throw away and disposal. Lorraine's songs are very slick and easy to tap your feet too, easy to get the hang of the song and where it’s going next. Mentally it has you swaying in your chair or gently dancing about the house. I got over my phobia of pop songs a long time ago; a good song is a good song no matter who has made it. Lorraine have taken on board the modern tastes for disco records and have stayed away from the likes of Scissor Sisters, the Rapture, the Klaxons and have even avoided sounding like New Order but they skirt too closely to the Pet Shop Boys' sound too often. The down side to it is that disco beat is hard to vary and your records all start sounding like your last one. At best this is lazy and at worst boring. If you take this song for what it is, a throwaway pop number, then you won’t be disappointed but if you want anything else look somewhere else.
