intro
Intensely passionate and grandiose-sounding alternative rock on debut EP from New York alternative rock band, God Fires Man
New York band God Fires Man have spared nothing on this debut four track EP. A new band, they sound absolutely fantastic. It is clear that they are an ambitious and focused band with their sites set high. The opener ‘Dark’ begins with crashing drums and high pitched screaming guitars before the vocals of singer Arthur Shephed bring the music down before it crashes into another full-on audio assault. They start as they mean to carry on and don’t hold off much. With similar sonic and grandiose moments to Smashing Pumpkins and My Vitriol, God Fires Man really mean business. They have a definite direction to their music and while it such a big sound with a wall of noise, the impact comes in the intensity with which they play with. While they do have elements of any number of alternative rock's finest bands, they have the energy and pace of more punk and hardcore acts like Alexisonfire or Moneen. They plough through the songs on this EP, not letting up for a second for you to take it all in. ‘Redefine’ follows on in a similar fashion but has a much more grungy sound. The grungy feeling comes comes from Shepherd's vocal style. ‘Still’ finishes off the EP in great style and is a huge song that sounds a touch like Feeder in its mix of melody and big guitars. With its massive chorus, it should like all the songs on this EP be being heard on radio stations all over the world.
