intro
Dub-reggae influenced indie rock on second single from South London-based group the Thirst, who have recently signed to Ronnie Wood's new Wooden Records label
The Thirst hail from Brixton in South London and are centered around brothers, Mensah and Kwane Cofi-Agyeman. While Mensah's friends dealt in petty crime, he bought a cheap guitar and his brother bought a bass and then the band was born. The line up is filled out with Mensah and Kwane's old school friend, Mark Lenihan, on rhythm guitar, while Marcus Harris plays drums. 'Ready to Move' is the Thirst's second single and has come out on Wooden Records, the new label of Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, who signed them after seeing them at the Half Moon in Putney. They recently supported the Sex Pistols on two dates in London and Manchester on their recent reunion tour, and have also been the support act on Hot Hot Heat's latest tour. 'Ready to Move' starts off with the jangle of a sweet Razorlight-style guitar, before the rest of the band rock straight in and then it changes gear, sounding instead like a dub reggae version of Babyshambles with vocals from Mensah sounding somewhere between Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys and Kele Okereke of Bloc Party. The B side, 'On the Brink', has punky Strokes-style beats and dub reggae style grooves, sounding a little bit like the Dead 60's but with a more jagged tone.
