intro
At the Luminaire in London, Anthony Strutt watches singer-songwriter David Hurn, supporting the American Music Club's Mark Eitzel, play an appealing if slightly monotonous set
David Hurn is tonight playing a short set in support of his friend, Mark Eitzel. David started off on the Brixton label, Day Release, before joining Fire Records. He plays six songs, all which are acoustic based. He is assisted by James who plays weird and odd noises on second guitar, and Yazz whom adds additional trumpet to most songs, which give them an elegant, but undated jazzy old school feel. David is a massive Mark Eitzel fan and the songs edge towards that school of thinking. They are well played and clever but sadly his audience is unlikely to get much bigger because the songs all sound pretty similar. He is still, however, very much worthy of a listen.
