intro
Stunning debut EP from Swedish indie/folk band Taxi Taxi ! which comprises of two teenage sisters, Miriam and Johanna Eriksson Berhan
Over the last year and a bit, Swedish band, Taxi Taxi! have been gaining a well deserved recognition for the demos that they have aired online. The two teenage sisters, Miriam and Johanna Eriksson Berhan, that comprise Taxi Taxi !have been wowing the indie/folk scene with three impressive demos, and at long last the twins have emerged from their virtual presence to release this self titled six track EP. There has been only one criticism made of Taxi Taxi!, namely their unique vocal style, yet the twins have angelic flawless voices and these comments are definitely unfounded. The comments are way off the mark and certainly detract from the enormous vocal and musical ability that the sisters effortlessly show - their songwriting ability shows maturity way beyond their years. Two tracks, previously released online, 'To Hide This Way' and 'Mary', appear on the EP. Despite their acclaim, these are, however, not the strongest tracks on this release. 'Belle' is a simple yet evocative song, sung with faultless harmonies to a lone piano. It makes you close your eyes and drift away. 'All I Think Of' is a succulent wistful love song, not afraid to be punctuated by pauses, and perfectly simple in every way. "When I see my own name, all I think of is you". The only slight negative, that can be found whilst listening to Taxi Taxi!'s debut output, is that the online demo version of 'To Hide this Way' is simply perfect. The EP version only manages to be described as exquisite. The delightful tinkling piano is omitted from this version, which is a crying shame. The enchanting piano track could have been given valued air space of its own. Not since This Mortal Coil has any band produced such a hauntingly beautiful collection of songs, and as a debut, a taster if you like, the music world is waiting with baited breath for what is sure to come.
