intro
Our Website of the Month is Freight Train Boogie, a Californian-based website dedicated to Americana Music and its own once weekly radio programme
Freight Train Boogie www.freighttrainboogie.com is a Californian-based website that is described by its founder Bill Frater as "a website dedicated to Americana Music: which includes the edgier country and folk singers, Hillbilly Twang, some bluegrass, blues and rock" and as placing a "special emphasis on "Alt.Country", Roots Rock and many small label and independent releases." Frater started the site in 1997 because he wanted to people to "know about all of this excellent music that wasn't being played on the "regular" radio stations". He also had an idea "to do a radio station on the Internet that was like the old freeform stations yet played Americana and roots music." Freight Train Boogie now has its own two hour radio programme which is hosted by Frater. It is broadcast once a week on California's KCRB station and then afterwards put on-line. It also has its own reviews column, which is compiled by Frater and another 10 reviewers. There is an extensive links page, and there is also a news page, which provides information on both current Americana events and releases.
